Tom Vignieri: Hymn to America
Cassandra Miller: I cannot love without trembling (Elizabeth Smalt - Viola)
Dvorak: Symphony no 8
This concert opens with Tom Vignieri's 'Hymn to America', which we are performing as a memorial to Tom who passed away a few months ago and was a great friend of the orchestra and our members. He was a wonderful man and a great composer.
Then - Cassandra Millers viola concerto 'I cannot love without trembling'. This piece is just wonderful - moving and soulful it inhabits a sound-world that is unique. Our soloist is Elizabeth Smalt, an outstanding viola player whose sound and playing will definitely do this piece justice.
After the interval, Dvorak's 8th Symphony - one of his most popular and beautiful works, evoking the Czech countryside with that sparkling orchestration that is his hallmark - warm strings, deep brass and sparkling woodwinds.
Absolutely terrific programme - please join us for these performances.
